Quantum Mechanics and the Human Condition

A DCI Philosophy of Physics

The Physics of Onus

Dogmatic Coterminous Impermanence begins from a physical condition rather than a moral command. Finite systems arise within changing environments, preserve local form through expenditure, interact across boundaries, and leave consequences that outlast the moment of contact. DCI calls the persistence of those consequences residue and the responsibility created by consequential reach onus.

Quantum mechanics sharpens this framework because its formal structure resists several classical intuitions that easily become philosophical habits. Contextuality constrains context-free value assignments. Bell-type correlations exclude broad classes of local hidden-variable explanations. Decoherence describes how environmental interaction suppresses accessible interference. Delayed-choice experiments caution against attaching an uncomplicated classical biography to quantum systems. QBism provides one agent-centered interpretation of quantum states while remaining an interpretation rather than a theorem.

Methodological boundary: quantum mechanics supplies no moral law and no experimental confirmation of stewardship, consent, justice, or responsibility. Physics constrains the metaphor. Philosophy interprets the human condition. Ethics enters through Recursive Agency.

The Participatory Interval

A finite observer encounters reality from a position within it. Instruments, categories, memory, training, institutions, and available records shape access to the field. DCI receives this as an epistemic discipline: every map has a coordinate, every coordinate leaves some horizon unseen, and a viable map must remain corrigible when reality exceeds it.

Bound Boundaries

Human relationships are not Bell pairs. Human coupling proceeds through ordinary causal channels such as bodies, language, trust, institutions, infrastructure, money, memory, dependency, and shared environments. DCI uses non-separability only as a disciplined analogy for the inadequacy of treating materially interdependent agents as though their consequences remain isolated.

Unequal reach creates gradients. Gradients enlarge the field affected by a choice. Onus follows that reach.

Memory and Residue

The Work remembers through residue, and it remembers imperfectly. Bodies retain fragments. Records preserve selections. Institutions lose context. Stories change across witnesses. Material effects can survive after the intentions that produced them have disappeared.

The refrain, The Work remembers, is liturgical compression. The explanatory proposition is finite: memory requires carriers, carriers transform, and carriers can fail.

Recursive Agency and the Normative Bridge

Thermodynamics supplies no moral command. Quantum mechanics supplies no theorem of kindness. Ethical significance enters when agents recognize that their choices modify another person's available conditions and can alter their own conduct in response to that recognition.

DCI places the normative commitment here: where agency exists within a shared consequential field, its exercise should preserve sufficient conditions for agency to remain meaningfully exercisable across subsequent iterations. This is an ethical axiom. Physics does not prove it.
